Once you are ready to start your journey of setting-up your operation in China or Hong Kong, the first decision that you have to make can also be the MOST important one of all: 

Q1> Who should you choose as a Service Provider in China?

Ahhh…. good Question! Choose wisely, grasshopper!

Of course, there are many Service Providers to choose from, and also no shortage of websites, YouTube’rs, and Social Media advertisers just to confuse your decision. On top of that, you will notice a very wide range in terms of cost for such services.

A Key Consideration:

Q2> What exactly will your company be doing in China ?
... and what does your growth Roadmap or future planning look like? 

Reason being: Many low cost options for Business Registration are offered by small businesses, or individuals, that offer ONLY services related to that single procedure.

Beyond the initial registration process, many do not offer any type of follow-on, operational, reporting, employee, etc.  services that you are DEFINITELY going to need – which means that you will need to find yet another service provider that can provide ongoing operational functions.

So, it is prudent to identify and engage with a Service Provider that offers a Suite of Resources from which you can utilize as needed – not only in the beginning, but as a long term Partner that is commited to your growth.

When it comes to broadrange Service Providers, there are generally two main options:

Consulting Company vs Legal Services Firm

Generally speaking, BOTH of these categories of businesses will be able to accomplish your business registration.

More specifically, according to recent updated Chinese Foreign Investment Category 2017, unless your business is subject to special approval such entertainment、finance、culture related and manufacturing, a normal consulting、technology and trading company can typically set up the company without much trouble.

Typically, such a Consulting Company will cost about 40%-50% lower compared to the typical cost of utilizing an  International Legal Services Firms who are able to provide this type of service. 

Application documents do not need lawyer to review as all applications are made using standardized government forms & formats, such as the Article of Association.

That said, there ARE other Government interactions, and business functions that DO require a Chinese, or International, Lawyer to accomplish, such as Trademarks, Property, certain Banking or Investment actions, and other functions. 

If you choose to engage a Consulting Comapny for your business registration, it would be prudent to make sure that the Consulting Company that you choose has strong working-connection with a reputable Chinese or International Law Firm, and that they will be able to engage on your behalf with this Law Firm as needed.
